Meaning of the lights on the SMA STP-SE

Sunny TriPower 3.0-6.0

There are three lights on the Sunny TriPower 5.0, 6.0, 8.0 and 10.0 Smart Energy (STP-SE): a green, a blue and a red one.

The green one indicates whether power is being produced, i.e. whether the device is working.

A green LED that is constantly on indicates that energy is being generated. If the green LED is off, no energy is being produced, for example at night. If the green LED is off while there is sufficient sun on the panels, there may be a fault: Please contact us.

If you have reset the inverter, the green LED will first flash for a while (2 sec on, 2 sec off) during the start-up phase. It also does this in the morning when there is not yet enough sun on the panels to start up, and sometimes also in the evening when the sun goes down.

When the inverter is in backup mode, the green LED will flash in an irregular rhythm (1.5 seconds on and 0.5 seconds off). This happens when the grid has failed and you can still use the batteries and solar panels to operate a select number of sockets.

The blue LED indicates the status of the internet connection.

A blue LED that is constantly on indicates that the inverter is connected to another device, usually your router for the internet. If the blue LED is constantly on, but the connection to the internet does not work, this is probably due to a setting in your router, or a fault with your Internet Service Provider.

A flashing blue LED that is flashing indicates that a connection is being established with another device such as your router, usually via WiFi. Once the connection has been successfully established, the blue LED changes from a flashing signal to a constantly burning light.

The red LED indicates that a fault has occurred. A red LED that remains on constantly is a signal to contact our service department. A flashing red LED indicates that the device is working, but that communication with the controlling device (usually a Sunny Home Manager) has failed. Check that both the Sunny Home Manager and the Sunny Tripower Smart Energy are still connected to the router, and that a network cable or a Powerline Adapter has not accidentally become disconnected.
