Zonnefabriek Self-Consumption Challenge 2025: there's still time to join!
It is not too late to join the Zonnefabriek Self-Consumption Challenge 2025. Participation is simple and the prize is definitely worth it!Want to win a nice prize by doing something that is also going to save you money? Who wouldn't want that! A large number of customers have already indicated that they are participating in our 'Self-Consumption Challenge' and you too can still participate!
What do you need to do?
It's very simple: you tell us what your current self-consumption is (or: let us calculate it!) and then try to increase that percentage as much as possible. In a year's time we will look at the result: whoever has made the most progress wins an SMA Sunny Home Manager for their solar plant (or else something of equal value)
How do you calculate your current self-consumption?
Self-consumption is the percentage of the generated electricity that is used by yourself at home, and is therefore not fed into the grid. To calculate this, we need two things: the yield of your solar panels over 1 year (in kWh), and the feed-in to the energy company over 1 year. We can get the yield from your monitoring portal (such as 'Mijn Zonnefabriek', or your 'Sunny Portal' app). For the feed-in power you need to look up your annual bill from the energy supplier.
The formula we use is:

For example: your panels produced 4000 kWh in 1 year. You fed 3000 kWh back into the grid in 1 year. Ergo: your self-consumption was (100% - (3000/4000) x 100) = 100 - 75 % = 25 %.
Can't figure it out? No problem, just send us your last energy bill and we will see if we can calculate a self-consumption percentage using your monitoring data.

Send us the annual statement from the electricity provider and we'll calculate your self consumption for you
Participating is fun, if only to see if you can use your own solar power intelligently: that way you're already preparing yourself for the abolition of the net metering scheme in 2027. So don't hesitate and send an email to service@zonnefabriek.nl. And who knows, in a year you might be the winner of a nice prize!
