Solar panel weather June 2025

Lots of sun and tropical heat

Solar panel weather June 2025

What was the weather like in the past month for the solar panels? What does that say about the yield? And how does it compare to previous years?

Another great month for solar panels: according to the KNMI, June 2025 did not have a single 'sunless' day and with an average of 274 hours of sunshine in the Netherlands, it was well above the long-term average of 214 hours.

Tropical temperatures

Fortunately, the month started with some rain, which finally rinsed the solar panels clean after the long drought of spring. But then it became dry again, and sunny, and hot: tropical temperatures were a regular occurrence in the past month, as you have undoubtedly noticed. You may already know that solar panels perform less well at high temperatures than when it is cool; nevertheless, your solar panels have probably generated more than enough solar power in the past month.

Price fluctuations

As we expected, there were no negative 'all-in' power prices on the spot market for electricity in June: no reason to temporarily switch off the inverters, or to stop feeding back into the grid. However, there was sometimes a considerable difference between the minimum and maximum price on a day, as in this picture from 1 July 2025:

Abundant sunshine on July 1st resulted in low electricity prices during the day, while prices skyrocketed in the evening, probably because it was a hot night and many people turned on the air conditioning to cool down. At times like these, you can make a lot of profit from a home battery due to the large price fluctuations.

The weather forecast for the coming days is what we used to call ‘typical Dutch summer weather’; after that, temperatures could rise again. Tropical heat and sunny days, that seems to be the new typical Dutch summer weather, thanks to climate change. Want to help slow down climate change as much as possible? We've got what you need!
