How can I feed power from solar panels back to the grid?
If your solar panels generate more electricity than you use, you can feed electricity back to the grid. When you start feeding in power, two parties need to be informed: your energy supplier and the grid operator.
The energy supplier
By informing your energy supplier that you have installed solar panels and are feeding in power, they can take this into account when preparing your annual bill. You can contact your energy supplier by phone.
The grid operator
The grid operator must also be informed that you will be feeding in power. The grid operator is the company that maintains the electricity grid and is responsible for reading the meter. It is important for the grid operator to know the meter reading. The grid operator may also come to install a new meter if your current meter is not suitable for feed-in power.
The process for registering solar panels varies by grid operator. In general, we can handle much of the work for you by registering you at energieleveren.nl. Your grid operator may contact you to replace your electricity meter. If you have an old Ferraris meter with a rotating disc, it will need to be replaced by a digital meter.
Net metering
Once your grid operator and energy supplier are properly informed, you can start feeding power back to the grid and the feed-in power will be subtracted from your power consumption. This process is called net metering. More information can be found on the page "What is net metering?".
