Complete BackUp of a single phase home

What if a power outage knocks out the electricity supply in your neighborhood, your municipality, or even the entire country? If that's something you're concerned about and want to protect yourself against, the new SMA BackUp Box 1P might offer a solution.

The BackUp Box works in conjunction with the Sunny Boy Smart Energy inverter, connected to batteries. The device detects a power outage and then quickly switches your home from grid-connected operation to "island operation": your home becomes an energy island, powered entirely by its own electricity.

Extra Power

This form of BackUp offers a lot more than the separate backup outlets we already offer with the Sunny Boy Smart Energy: these separate outlets only work when you manually turn them on with a switch and offer a maximum of 3600 watts of power, or 16 amps of current.

However, the BackUp Box can deliver twice as much power (7300 watts), allowing the entire distribution board to remain powered. For short periods, the BackUp Box can even supply up to 11,000 watts, which is useful for cranking up certain consumers that require a large starting current. The Box switches on automatically, even when you're not home, giving you the peace of mind that your refrigerator and other important appliances will stay on. SMA also places great emphasis on protecting its systems against hacking: its devices use highly secure communication and comply with all the latest European cybersecurity regulations.
