Changing the WiFi password in an SMA inverter with QR code
In order to change the WiFi password you must log into the inverter. The SMA Energy App makes that easy: just scan the QR code.
Follow these steps to log in and change the password.
-
Step 1: the SMA Energy app
Open the SMA Energy App on your phone. The login for the Eneregy App is the same as for Sunny Portal: the username is your e-mail address, the password is your Sunny Portal password.

Make sure to have your new WiFi password at the ready.
-
Step 2: Settings
Once you have logged in click on the 'My Area' icon at the bottom right of the home page.

-
Step 3: QR-code scanner
Click on 'Quick access to device'. When you click on this you will see a blue button that says 'Enable scanner'. Click on that button.

-
Step 4: scanning the QR-code
Point your phone towards the QR-code on the inverter. The phone will automatically open the login page of the inverter. (NB: if you are unable to get into the inverter in this manner then you can try the steps explained here).

-
Step 5: Logging in
To log in, select the user group 'Installer,' and as the password, either use : the four digits of your postal code followed by the letters in uppercase, an underscore, and lowercase 'zf' (for Zonnefabriek), which should look something like this: 1234AB_zf. In some cases we had to add a zero in front, so then you can try something like: 01234AB_zf. Or (for installations dating from before September 2019) only the 4 digits of your postal code (without the letters). Then click 'Log In.'

-
Step 6: Launching the installation assistant
Once logged in, we want to start the installation wizard. If you're using a smartphone or tablet, click on 'User Settings.' First you may have to click on the three horizontal stripes top right to make the User Settings appear. Note: If you’re working on a PC instead, click on the icon of a bust (on the right side of the blue bar).

-
Step 7: The installation assistant
Start the 'Installation Assistant' (sometimes called: 'Installation Wizard')

-
Step 8: Network configuration
The next step is 'Network Configuration.' Scroll down and click on WLAN. WLAN stands for 'Wireless LAN,' which is the same as Wi-Fi (LAN stands for Local Area Network).

-
Step 9: Select the new WiFi network
You will see a list of all available Wi-Fi networks. One of the networks should be the network from your new router. (If this new network is not listed, you can perform a 'WLAN scan' via the button at the bottom of the page.). Click on the cog wheel next to the correct Wi-Fi network

-
Step 10: Changing the network settings
A pop-up box appears with the words 'WLAN settings': Click on that box

-
Step 11: Enter WiFi password
Enter your new Wi-Fi password and then click on the 'Connect to WLAN' button

-
Step 12: Check the status
If all went well, the status of the Wi-Fi connection will have changed to 'OK', with a green check mark next to it

-
Step 13: Save and Next
Scroll down to where you see a box on the right saying 'Save and Next'. Click on it

-
Step 14: Move to Summary
On the next few pages you don't have to change anything. Just look for the 'Save and Next' or 'Next' box on each page and click on it. In the end you will get to a 'Summary' page. Scroll down until you get to the box that says 'Next' and click on it.

-
Step 15: Finish
You will return to the inverter home screen. If everything went well, the communication with the new router—and thus with the internet and Sunny Portal—should now be established. You can now close the browser on your smartphone, tablet, or PC and reconnect your device to your own Wi-Fi network. Once the connection is successful, you will have a steady blue LED on your inverter. The graphs on Mijn Zonnefabriek or in the Zonnefabriek app will not update immediately; that usually takes a few hours.
