Calculate the yield of your solar system

And get insight into the benefits

Calculate your solar production

and see how much you can save
There is a high degree of variability in the costs of solar panels. And even though the costs are certainly important, what's more important is to calculate the benefits. With our calculation tool you can get a general idea of the yield of your virtual solar installation.

Your roof with solar panels

Your future solar system

Now you know how many solar panels can be installed on your roof. But the amount of electricity that you can produce with your panels depends on teh choices you make when designing the system. You will need the power from your panels today, but also in the years to come. Here are two proposals based on your input.

* This indication is based on the most commonly used solar panel size of 1 x 1,65. The calculation has not taken any possible shading into account.

Calculating the benefits of solar panels
Is investing in solar panels an interesting option for you? Aside from the clear benefit for the environment, the question is what the benefit is for you. How do you calculate what a solar installation on your roof can do for you.

In order to determine the benefit you need to calculate the system yield over its expected lifetime and subtract the costs. The yield consists of the money you save in the costs of the electricity that you don't need to buy from suppliers anymore, plus the compensation you receieve for any power you feed back into the grid. The costs are the initial investement plus any possible maintenance costs.

Solar panel payback period
Some suppliers tend to focus on the so-called solar panel payback period. That's the length of time from the moment of installation that it takes for the system to have generated just as much money as it cost to install. From that moment on the system has 'paid itself back' and every extra generated euro can be considered to be 'pure profit'.

It would seem to make sense to choose a system with the shortest possible payback period, because that means you start making a profit sooner, doesn't it? However, just looking at the payback period isn't always the way to make the most out of your system. Because systems with shorter payback periods will usually be made up of lower quality, and therefore cheaper, products. These systems could end up having a much shorter lifespan and so ultimately yield less profit than a system with a longer payback period.

Return on investment for solar panels
At Zonnefabriek we prefer to look at the Return on Investment (R.O.I.) rather than the payback period. And if we do that, it turns out that it pays off to invest in high quality products from reliable brands, with a proven track record of durability.

The best products yield more power, suffer less degradation and have a longer useful life. The risk of defects (which can never be completely eliminated) is much smaller with superior products and if anything does go wrong, reliable brands have better warranty terms that mean you get a quick and cost-free solution in the case of a service event.

Minimizing risks = Maximizing profits
In order to calculate the R.O.I of solar panels over their lifespan, we need to make some assumptions. These assumptions concern the cost of electricity over the years, the legal framework of net metering in The Netherlands, the probability of defects and the necessity of maintenance, among others. As one of the oldest solar panel installers of The Netherlands, we use our long experience to offer products that we know are durable and that keep on working without problems. That's how we reduce risks and increase your profits.

The cost of installing solar has reduced so much over the years that the return on investment is almost always very positive. The only exceptions would be north facing roofs or roofs with a lot of shade. The solar consultant visiting you will always make a free, no-strings-attached calculation of the yield to indicate what your possible benefits would be. Even thouigh the calculation is just indicative, we have built up so much experience that we're almost always right with our calculations. And Zonnefabriek systems have shown to have consistently higher yields than the average solar system in the Netherlands, about 10% more. This has been independently verified by the University of Utrecht's TeldeZon research.

Profit = Yield - Costs
Once the calculated benefits of a solar system have been calculated, we need to balance them against the costs. Our solar consultant will take a good look at all aspects, from mounting material and cabling to type of solar panles and inverters, in order to make the best offer with the best products. Of course the deduction of VAT will be taken into account, as well as any possible subsidies. This helps you get a proper insight into the real benefits of your solar system.

Contact us for a free, no-strings-attached consultation. We'd be happy to calculate how much your benefits woul;d be, so that you can judge for yourself if the return on investement of a solar panel system is sufficient for you.
